Tax Season:Two words that make most people cringe (unless
you’re a CPA). It’s that time of year
again! This is a time of year that our budget and finances (which have always,
most likely, been an issue) force their way into your brain and wiggle out in a
frown. Don’t you hate it? I just spent several hours printing up my statements
and swimming through all of the medical and personal receipts- not fun. Just the
topic of taxes make me want to curl up inside myself and not peek until after
April 15. |

 Nature is a
wonderful teacher if we will take the time to watch and learn. It is God’s way of showing us how life has
similarities in all living beings.
If you ever
have had the sheer pleasure of watching brilliant bluebirds in your backyard,
you have probably noticed some unique behaviors regarding their nesting boxes
at different seasons of the year.
Today the
bluebird provided an illustration of how we, as mothers, grieve the past seasons
of life, especially the years of childrearing. |

With autumn comes my favorite time of year: brilliant
oranges and glowing reds, a chill in the air, and most importantly an earlier
sundown. You might think I’m crazy or maybe you agree: When the sun goes down
earlier, I feel happier. But, most people feel the opposite.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)is where most people need
more day light to increase their functionality during the season. With the days
getting shorter, the nights getting longer, and the weather about to
dramatically change, SAD is something to be aware of regarding your mental
health. |

In the hectic season of being a mother of toddlers, I have put away my own toys to make room for blocks, Little People, and books that entertain my kids. Honestly, I believe I originally put them away to keep them from being torn, slobbered on or eaten, but gone they are all the same. The excuse over the last few years for leaving my toys “in storage” however has been lack of time. As a mom, wife, and therapist I certainly don’t have time to “play,” right? Or do I? Surely I do |

Who’s in Control Here?Powerlessness is a state of recognition that no matter how much we intervene in the recovery of our partner, we have no control over the outcome. Their behaviors, motivation and sobriety are out of our hands. Surrender of our idea of control and acceptance of our powerlessness is a difficult endeavor and often counterintuitive to self comfort when in relationship with someone struggling with sexual integrity. |

Any person who could create the first sound cartoon, first all-color cartoon, and first animated feature-length motion picture is definitely someone with vision. But Disney's greatest masterpieces of vision were Disneyland and Walt Disney World. And the spark for that vision came from an unexpected place. Back when Walt's two daughters were young, he used to take them to an amusement park in the Los Angeles area on Saturday mornings. |

'...To whom does my time belong? Typically, we view time as our own. When Jesus comes into the picture, that often begins to change. He turns us outward and begins to make us mindful of the needs of others. As we heed Jesus' call to love our neighbors as ourselves, we start to shift from thinking of time as our own to seeing time as belonging to the person in our path. ...A saying goes, 'God put me on earth to accomplish certain things. Right now I'm so far behind I think I'll never die.' Has God given us enough time?
